Edit and Submit Your Timesheet

Open Daylight from Jira's Apps menu. My Timesheet shows your week by issue and day, with daily and weekly totals.

Read your expected hours

The total at the top shows the hours you logged against the hours you are expected to work this week, for example 32:00 / 40:00. Your expected hours come from your work schedule. Without one, they are the daily target on Monday to Friday.

A holiday shows under its date and counts as a day off. A half day halves that day. Leave time lowers the expected hours, and the total shows it separately, for example 32:00 / 32:00, 8:00 leave.

Add or edit time

  1. Select a cell for the issue and date you need.
  2. To add a worklog, enter a duration and optional note in the new-entry fields, then select Add.
  3. To change a worklog, select an existing entry, edit its duration or note, then select Save.

Durations can use 1h 30m, 45m, 1:30, or decimal hours such as 1.5. Each cell can contain several worklogs. Selecting Add creates a separate entry; it does not replace the cell total.

The cell editor also lets you edit or delete existing entries. Saved changes update the corresponding Jira worklogs.

Fill several cells

  • Drag the handle on a filled cell to copy its value across the week.
  • Select a range of cells to enter the same duration in several cells or clear them together.
  • Select Copy last week to bring the previous week's entries into the current week.
  • Use Fill week to review suggestions from your Jira activity before you accept them.

Review copied and suggested entries before submitting. Adjust the dates, durations, and notes to match the work you did.

After an action, the notification can offer an undo option. While it is visible, use ⌘Z on macOS or Ctrl+Z on Windows.

Submit for approval

If your organization enables approvals, select the submission control when your entries are ready. Your organization chooses weekly or monthly submissions. The editing grid stays weekly in either case.

From the last working day of the week, the submit bar tells you if you logged fewer hours than expected. You can still submit.

Submitted and approved periods are read-only within Daylight. While a submission is pending, select Unsubmit or ask the approver to reject it for changes. Then edit the entries and select Submit again if changes were requested, or Submit week after withdrawing. Approved periods stay locked. Daylight currently has no action to reopen an approved period.

Your admin can also set an edit window for older weeks. Weeks outside that window are read-only in Daylight.

Review another week

Use the week controls at the top of the timesheet to move between weeks. Daylight displays entries in your timezone.

Before submitting, check that you recorded the expected issues, dates, durations, and notes.
