Log Time in Daylight

Use a timer while you work, or add a known duration with a quick-log button. Both methods create native Jira worklogs under your account.

Use a timer

  1. Open the Jira issue for your task.
  2. In the Daylight panel, select Start timer.
  3. When you finish, open the issue and select Stop & log.

The timer continues if you close the issue. Stop & log saves the elapsed time immediately. Starting a timer on another issue first stops and logs the existing timer.

To change the duration or add a note afterward, edit the entry in My Timesheet.

Log a known duration

In the issue's Daylight panel, select 15m, 30m, 1h, or 2h. Daylight adds the selected duration immediately.

For another duration, a note, or a different date, open My Timesheet and select the relevant cell. The cell editor accepts durations such as 1h 30m, 45m, and 1.5h.

Review automatic time suggestions

If your admin enables auto-track, Daylight uses issue status changes to suggest time entries. For example, it can measure time while an issue is in In Progress.

Suggested time stays separate from your worklogs until you accept it. The issue panel shows a tracked-time card with controls to log or dismiss the suggestion. My Timesheet also shows suggestions for the week.

Sessions that exceed your admin's time limit are capped and flagged for review.

Pick an account and fill entry fields

If your admin set up client accounts or entry fields, the timer, quick log and timesheet show them. The account starts on the project's default. A field with a star is required, and Daylight asks for it before it saves.

Log time that is not on an issue

If your admin set up an internal project, your timesheet starts with a Not on an issue section. It lists categories such as Vacation, Sick or Internal meetings. Enter time in them like any other row.

In an issue's Daylight panel, the Quick log list can send the time to a category instead of the open issue. These entries are ordinary Jira worklogs in the internal project. They are never billable.

Categories marked as time off carry a leave tag. Leave lowers your expected hours for the week and does not count as work.

Edit or delete an entry

In My Timesheet, select an issue's cell for the relevant day. Use the editor to change the duration or note, add an entry, or delete one.

The Daylight time log panel on a Jira issue also lets you remove entries for that issue.

Find your saved time

Saved entries appear in Jira's worklog system and contribute to Daylight reports. Your Jira worklogs remain if you uninstall Daylight.

A specific note helps with later reviews. Include enough detail to identify the task or experiment.
